The youth of the Armenian community in Montreal and Laval have organized a walkathon to raise funds for the new Holy Cross Church and Community Centre in Laval, Quebec. The walkathon will take place on Saturday June 16, starting at the Diocesan headquarters located at 615 Stuart Avenue in Outremont, and finishing at the site on Souvenir Avenue in Laval, where the new church will be built. Those participating in the event will be collecting pledges for their walk. The walkathon will start at 10am.

Encourage friends and family to support you with a pledge! Pledge forms are available at www.marchoftheholycross.org

His Eminence Bishop Bagrat Galstanian, Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church of Canada, and the Diocesan embly have dedicated this coming year to the youth of our community. The Diocese has declared the theme of “The Armenian Church, Home for our Youth.” A Department of Christian Education and Youth Ministry has been established in the Diocese, and high emphasis is being placed on involving the youth in every aspect of the life of the church. It is very symbolic that the first major public fundraising event for the new church has been an initiative, organized by the youth.

The fast growing Armenian community in Laval, has for several years, been in need of a new church and community centre. Once constructed, it will provide for the spiritual, cultural, and social needs of the community, and will become the meeting place of choice for the youth and faithful.

The walkathon on June 16, with a large and enthusiastic participation, will demonstrate the determination of the community to realize this important project.
