fundraising ideas?

I am planning on going to a mission trip to Guatemala in August, and I wanted to know some ideas for fundraising. The church I am going through does not have fundraising for the people going, but only specifically for projects once we get down there. What would be appropriate? Would a bake sale at work be appropriate? Is there a letter format I can send out to family/friends, or is that tacky? I need $1,000…any suggestions? I've never done this before!

I would see if you could get another banquet hall and put out signs and invite people and do a stuffed baked potato dinner…. you can prebuy a lot of thing in advance and if you dont use it you can always take the food back. Potatos are cheap so if you dont use them you dont lose alot of money out of your own pocket.

Ive done speg. dinners, taco salad dinners, and every time I did I got over 1000 dollars for one days worth of work. You can use cheap styro plates from walmart and cheap fork napkins and water or tea. Thats really all you need. (Bread if you do speg.)

Its a mission trip so you need to have pictures of what you will be doing on your flyers or on a poster board when people walk in to pay. It will make you more money if people know what they are giving money for.

Dinner should be by donations only. You can get more money that way.

If you chose to go with potatos…toppings would be…… chopped ham chunks (pre packaged) sour cream, butter, green onion, chili (canned), salsa, cheese. I also suggest washing all the potatos and putting them in foil roasters and not individually wrapping them.

I think a bake sale would be great! Maybe you can get people together through your church because that might work out better than doing it at work. Like maybe do one after church? I know that people tend to be really generous when you are using it for something like a mission trip. I also know someone who had a huge garage sale and she just had a bunch of people donate their old clothes and stuff. She got so much money I think it worked out really well. Also I think a lot of people write to family/friends/other businesses and ask them to sponsor you. Good luck!

If you are a good baker, then a bake sale is a good idea. Actually, I have a friend here at my office who did something similar. His wife is an EXCELLENT baker, so she put together a list of cookies that she specializes in (at home chef) – and she sold them for $6 a dozen. Also, around holidays – Valentine's day especially, you could do something unique. For example, wrape two heart shaped cookies in a cute bag and sell them for $2 a piece. My friend at work make 90 packages of these and they all sold within an hour.

The next holiday is St. Patrick's Day and Easter, try something for those holidays.

When you have something cute and inexpensive, working moms and dads have something nice to take home to their spouses or kids! Good luck.

    Hi there!

I've been heavily involved with nonprofit fund raising for years….so here are some ideas I have that could be relatively low in cost for your trip…

    1) Consider an e-mail campaign – depending on how many email addresses you have, you never know how many people might respond to your cause and just write you a check! This works amazingly well for several organizations that are short on time AND resources. (There are definitely great formats for nice ways of asking…I've included a link below…)

    2) Instead of having a garage sale at your home, try having a "garage" sale on eBay! Think of it as a virtual way to get rid of some stuff AND make a little more money…(make sure you include the cost of shipping those items online or else you'll end up losing money!).

    3) If you or your parents are involved in some kind of community (such as your school, your church, etc) think of making an announcement at church, or posting bulletins at school. You could always sell baked goods at school or church or even start up a recycling campaign! The only problem with bake sales is that it does cause you to incur quite a bit of cost for what people are willing to pay for brownies…its better to start off asking your community for donations, and then go from there.

    Best of luck!
