The teaching of the tithe by churches, and, unfortunately, by those who paid out of the collection basket, is robbing God's children. It is amazing that churches will ignore specific teachings from Jesus and the apostle Paul, who both knew the OT backwards and forwards, and cherry pick a few verses out of the OT, twist them in to a pretzel, and ignore all the other statements in the OT about tithing. (Did you know there is a version of tithing in the Word of God where tithers comsume their own tithe, or that the OT states that the tithe MUST go to the Levite priests? You will NOT hear that on "Church Budget Sunday.)
You want advice on how to raise money for your parking lots, electric bills, and salaries, while giving 0 to 3% of "the take" to the poor and to evangelism, read what the church was taught about giving. Oh, wait, that doesn't work well enough, right? And, hey, what the heck, when we want to give to the poor or to a missionary, we take a "special collection."
Biblical truth; generally speaking, a rich person who gives ten per cent of their gross salary to the local church gave nothing in Jesus' eyes.
Biblical truth; if a church has to nag specific people to give more, they are sinning. Paul clearly taught that if a person doesn't want to give, they are not to give.
The church' insatiable need for money for its programs and expenses and advertising, etc, while giving a few per cent, if that, to the poor and to evangelism, isn't in the Bible.
I find many, if not most, people who disagree will subject me to either a personal attack, or thier opinion, or assumption, or conjecture. I say, read what Jesus Christ and the apostle Paul had to say about it.
From someone who is just a sinner saved by grace.

Bake sales, garage sales (have members donate).

We would love to help your church do a catalog fund raiser if that is something that your member would be interested in. Please look into it at www.lnressentials.com.

Good luck in whatever your congregation decides.
References :
If you allow the Holy Spirit to move the way He wants, you will have so many people coming in to get saved and healed. Once the word gets out that the presence of God is there with signs and wonders, you will not have enough room to seat everyone. In turn, God will bless you financially.
References :
Primary is tithes and offerings; churches should mostly be member-supported.

In addition, grants for community service. Or having members submit recipes and selling a "cookbook." Car wash, etc. Or you can put in a Christian bookstore.

In a more permanent way you can set up a profit organization or development then use all the money for ministry or service to community. Like buying property and renting it!
