Church Fundraisers

Anyone know any good church fundraising ideas?

We are a small church (about 50 members) and we are trying to raise some money so that we can begin building a new church. I need some fund raising ideas. We are in a suburban community where there are quite a few subdivisions and a few schools. We have already thought of (and are planning) a yard sale, car wash, and a hat/fashion show. I've run out of the standard ideas. Does anyone know of any updated ways to raise money? Also trying to write a grant request letter. Any info on that would be great too. Please, serious ideas. We don't want anything that has to do with stripping or prostitution. (I've read some other questions and people can get a bit carried away lol) Thanks in advance and God bless.
Thanks for the partnering idea. We currently rent the church we are in now. Its over 100 years old. Basically just a sanctuary and a small back office. We has different ministries meeting at various times. Youth groups, mens/womens ministries, praise teams, etc. We also want to host AA/NA meetings. Need more room to do God's work. Thanks again everyone. These are some great ideas!

Hmm – wrong time of year for wreath sales – but I wonder if there's a company out there that sells spring/summer stuff for fundraising. Don't sell World's Finest chocolate – it is far from the finest. In fact, I gave a local sports team a dollar today on the condition they DIDN'T try to give me a candy bar!

How about adding a bake sale to the yard sale, how about adding a small carnival to that? You can make the games – there is the fishing "pond "(Not really a pond – a curtain hung up, poles with string and clothespins on the end – they throw the end over the curtain and get a prize attached. The sawdust dig – small toys or a "coin" good for a bigger prize, bean bag toss, etc etc. Get the prizes from Oriental trading Company – they can be religious if you like or standard and they are decent quality for little money.

A craft fair – with tables for kids to make their own crafts for a small fee – see oriental trading for the craft kits as well – again, religious or not.

savenger hunt with good prize at the end – singles or groups – have to pay a fee to participate ( has to cover the cost of the prize and still raise money)
Hmmm – what else? Let me think on it.

Grant writing – the book "Grant Writing for Dummies" is a great help. Biggest thing is to be concise and precise about what you are going to use the grant for, the benefits to your church, cost analysis, who within the church benefits, effects on community if applicable, etc. Details count the most, but don't be too wordy.

BTW – I am a professional hat maker – I'd happily discuss the loan of some hats for your show if you mentioned where they came from. PM me if interested.

You could have an auction. You can call businesses in your area and ask them to donate their product or service and then auction them off.

    car wash.

    bake sales

Also consider sistering up with a larger church and asking for assistance..

I would also consider if the area in mind needs another church. What are your reasons for starting a new one??

try a spaghetti dinner at $5 per plate, includes garlic bread and water (with lemon) to drink. There is also the dessert auction. Have the ladies in your church make all kinds of yummy desserts and then let people in the neighborhood bid for them. the one with the highest bid wins the dessert to take home. Bidding on all desserts starts at $5.

I always like the old chilli dinners. I don't know who the first person to dunk a cinnamon roll in chilli was, but they were no doubt a visionary and a genius!

Maybe you could put together a cookbook and have some the members of the church contribute their favorite recipes. I've seen this done before. I'm sure you could get on the Internet and find more info.

About 3 yaers ago i wanted to raise money for my church. I play the guitar, and there are some other people that play bass, drums, and vocals. We got together and made a cover album of metallicas greatest hits. Then we performed and supplied dinner. If you cant find enouph people to do this than you should have a simple talent night were people tryout. I know we charged about 5 dollars a person. We raised a ton of money cause we hosted it like 3 or 4 times. Good Luck.

This is not very original, but we've have a big spaghetti feeds with all the trimming and dessert. On certain Saturday nights at different times – The church bought the food and the women prepared it. We advertised a night out for parents and provided babysitting while the adults ate. Some of the talented people in the church played instruments or sang during dinner.
We advertised everywhere in town and had a HUGE response.
it works especially well during the Christmas season when parents want to eat out – then go shopping alone while the church provided the babysitting.

Spaghetti and meatball dinners usually go well. One of the branches of our church makes Italian sausage and sells it buy the pound. They do very well and did just as you stated built a new church with their earnings. After two years.

I'm not a christian but I live next to a catholic church. They make a lot of money with their once a year fundraiser. For the kids they have a little carnival. Nothing fancy just basic games like throwing darts at balloons and knocking milk bottles over with baseballs. For every kid that wins the game they play they get a prize ticket and certain ticket levels earn certain prizes. For the adults they have a silent auction where the church members and local businesses donate things of value that people bid on. Some examples would be the priest at the church gives a coupon that says he will cook dinner and serve wine for 8 guests and then you would bid how much you think it is worth, people donate things in their home like an old big screen tv that still works but they don't need it anymore, local businesses donate things like free dinner for 2 coupons. They also have a massive rummage sale. Everything is way cheaper than you would get at a thrift store to encourage buying more. They have all kinds of food like hotdogs, hamburgers, soda, fresh lemonade, beer, chips, icecream, cotton candy, and they get local christiany type bands to play music during the whole event. There's a lot more involved and this is also for a congregation of about 2,000. With a small congregation you probably couldn't put on a big shindig like that but some of the ideas can work by themselves.

carnival with cardboard box maze, popcorn, clown (your pastor! hehe lol), cotton candy, … fun!
if any of your church members or elders have fruit trees/ gardens or vegetable gardens, they can harvest them, put them in a cooler on a wagon, and sell the produce along with bottled water at a local parade or fair.
