What are some fundraising ideas to raise money for church?
We did a silent auction. People were able to donate things and get a tax write off. You'd be amazed at all the stuff people have received as gifts that they did not want. Scarves, costume jewelry, cologne, books, toys, DVDs, etc., etc. People also donated items like a bottle of wine, a box of cigars, a week at a time share we did a live auction on. We made gift baskets out of a bunch of small items. You fill a basket with the items and then buy a plastic bag at Michael's craft store. People also donated services like a haircut or two hours with an accountant. The CPA hoped that people would use him in the future. We got gift certificates from supermarkets and restaurants. We charged people for a dinner and then they bid on the items. We gave everyone who bought dinner a number for bidding. They wrote the number and their name on the bid sheet so we had two ways of figuring out what was written. We had minimum bids of 1/3 of the value of the item. So we made money on the dinner (which we had catered and tickets were sold in advance) and on the items which did not cost us anything.

Anyone have any good fundraising ideas?
My church youth group is planning a trip to Florida. We are trying to get the whole thing paid for so that no one has to pay for anything but souveniers. So far my ideas are a church carnival for little kids. Selling tickets to play games for like 25 cents each. I was also thinking of a fundraising night for the adults with various activities like a "youth worker" auction where we auction off services to be done by our youth members. Also we would have like a bake sale and dinner etc. to raise more money. Please respond with your ideas and opinions on my ideas. I'm trying to stay away from things that cost money upfront for example cookie dough, lollipop, scratchoff fundraisers that just give a portion of our profit to someone else. Thanks.
Hey there! GREAT ideas…and maybe you could add to them with something below…
I've been heavily involved with nonprofit fund raising for years….so here are some ideas I have that could be relatively low in cost for your cause…
1) Consider a mail campaign – depending on how many mailing addresses you have, you never know how many people might respond to your cause and just write you a check! This works amazingly well for several organizations that are short on time AND resources.
2) Consider running an online auction – this is an AWESOME way to get to the people whose mailing addresses you don't have (ie you've got their EMAILS)…your email base can feel like they're using their expendable income on great stuff AND its going to their community at the same time!
I've included a link of one of the online auction companies that I've worked with…cMarket. They also have another website, BiddingforGood.com, that opens your auction up to all their members so that people who you don't even know can donate to your cause and bid on your items!
3) Instead of having a garage sale at your home, try having a "garage" sale on eBay! Think of it as a virtual way to get rid of some stuff AND make a little more money…(make sure you include the cost of shipping those items online or else you'll end up losing money!).
4) Have a fundraising event – give people in your community something to look forward to, and host a gala….you can sell tickets, have an auction, raffle prizes, etc that will give your church something to look forward to AND a perfect opportunity to donate to something they care about.
5) One last tid bit – consider selling sponsorships for your event…this can help off set some of your cost INCREDIBLY. You'd be surprised how many local businesses want to be a part of your cause-minded event! You can ask for anywhere around $500 per sponsor, and if you put your auction online, you can ask for even more than that because they'll be getting just that much more exposure through your website and event emails!
